The drive
The route leaves the Kvarner bay and climbs quickly into Gorski Kotar, through pine forest and past Fužine, before turning south towards Slunj. Rastoke, the watermill village on the Korana and Slunjčica rivers, is on the way and the stop is included in the price. In autumn this drive is the reason people take photographs from the car window.

Worth knowing before you book
Good for cruise arrivals
If you are docking in Rijeka we can meet you at the port and have you at the lakes before mid-morning.
Rastoke is included
The mill village at Slunj sits directly on this route. Half an hour there costs nothing extra and is the single best photo stop between Rijeka and the park.
Winter needs a little care
Gorski Kotar gets real snow. We drive it all winter on proper tyres, but allow a little more time between December and March.
Questions about this route
How long is the transfer from Rijeka to Plitvice?
Around two and a half hours for 195 kilometres, including the climb through Gorski Kotar. With the free Rastoke stop, closer to three.
Do you pick up at the Rijeka cruise port?
Yes, and at any hotel or address in the city. Give us the ship and arrival time and the driver will be waiting.
Is the road safe in winter?
Yes, with the caveat that Gorski Kotar genuinely snows. Our cars run winter tyres from November and we allow extra time rather than rushing it.
