The drive
The drive runs south-east from Ljubljana past Novo Mesto, crosses into Croatia, then joins the road down through Karlovac and the Korana valley to Slunj. The Rastoke stop is included. From Slunj it is another forty minutes of river and forest to the park entrances.

Worth knowing before you book
Bring passports or ID cards
The crossing is normally waved through, but random checks happen and everyone in the car needs documents. This includes children.
It pairs well with a one-way trip
Plenty of people do Ljubljana → Plitvice → Split as a single journey rather than three separate transfers. Priced as one trip it works out considerably cheaper.
Rastoke is on the way
Included free, same as from Zagreb and Rijeka. It breaks up what is otherwise the longest continuous stretch of this drive.

Do we need passports for the Ljubljana to Plitvice transfer?
Bring passports or national ID cards for everyone, children included. Both countries are in Schengen so you are usually waved through, but checks do happen.
Why does this route cost more than a Croatian one of the same length?
Cross-border transport carries extra licensing and insurance requirements for the vehicle and driver. That difference is built into the price you see — there is no surcharge added later.
How long does the border crossing take?
Usually a few minutes. In peak summer weekends it can add fifteen to twenty, which we already allow for in the journey time we quote.
